A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MRS. DELLA SIMS McCAUGHAN FOR HER OUTSTANDING CAREER AND MERITORIOUS SERVICE AS AN EDUCATOR.
WHEREAS, Mrs. Della Sims McCaughan served as an educator in the Biloxi Public School System for 44 years; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Della Sims McCaughan received an Einstein Congressional Fellowship to work in the United States Senate as an educational advisor; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Della Sims McCaughan also taught as an adjunct instructor at the University of Mississippi, the University of Southern Mississippi, William Carey College, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Alaska and the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College; and
WHEREAS, in 1992, the Mississippi University for Women selected her for the Hall of Master Teachers honor; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of her talent and teaching accomplishments, she received the Mississippi Teacher of the Year honor from the Mississippi State Department of Education; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Della Sims McCaughan has been placed in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Teacher Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Della Sims McCaughan was the first teacher in the South to introduce marine biology into a secondary education curriculum; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Della Sims McCaughan was the research and publications consultant for the four-volume publication "Marine Resources and History of the Mississippi Gulf Coast"; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to commend the noteworthy accomplishments of the citizens of the state:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Mrs. Della Sims McCaughan for her outstanding career and meritorious service as an educator.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Della Sims McCaughan.
